Jewelry has many purposes in India. For one, jewelry is a staple in every woman's closet or dresser, as these accessories are used to enhance her feminine beauty. They are essential to the adoration of women. These jewelry pieces are made of gold, silver, and a woman's best friend, diamonds.
Aside from its adoration purposes, jewelry plays its role in economics and finances. As investments, jewelry can also be used as security measures during times of contingency. Expensive jewelry can be sold anytime, anywhere, whenever money is needed. And so, jewelry has insurance purposes as well.
Jewelry, then, will always be in demand in India. Its style will vary from one state to another. The popularity of a certain type of jewelry in an area may not guarantee the same response in another location. However, some basic pieces will always be common among all Indian women. An example would be silver rings.
Silver rings in India are worn on all five fingers. The many types of metal rings can be generally categorized as those with or without the bezel, which holds the decorative stone or seal.
Based on Hindu astrology, each one of the nine planets of the universe has its corresponding stone. An Indian will know of the dominant planet during the time of his or her birth, since it is believed to carry a strong influence on the person's life. The wearing of these special stones can enhance or mitigate the influence of the planet.

This painting by Bartolomo Veneto was probably painted in Milan, c. 1510. The labyrinth and Solomon's Knots painted on the young man's tunic probably symbolize secrecy---his identity remains unknown.(2 pics to the left is another of these Slomon's knots. I found another interesting one in a book of Tibetan, pre-Buddhist art and I think I'll go try and find it again.Antiqities of Northern Tibet, Belleza, DS 786 B 43 pg 335. On the page opposite is one of those upturned pine tree symbols if you ever run into any more.

I can't quite remember, but I think this may be a photo of that man I talked about who spoke with my brother's voice saying "What if he opened it up and---nothing there." I copied it for those "Solomon's Knots" because they look like a similar device common in Buddhist iconography---the name of which I can't think of right now. I'll probably run into them again sometime but by then I will have forgotten about this one. In the meantime, I have an interesting example from a book of art in Sudan.

Diana's brothers are named Robbie, Waylon, Ace and Tamales. The gargoyles have been using Diana as a portal for the last few hours and I went home last night and woke up during the night thinking I had forgotten them. Waylom is the one that built that little cart I have hung from the rafters in the garage. He built it with his cousin and I guess I have forgotten his name.

Dr. Kahle, I picked up this book as I walked to find the newspaper I left out on that chair I sat on at the north end of the Social and Behavioral Sciences high rise while I waited for the library to open yesterday. When I found my newspaper was missing last night as I left, I should have had a "panic attack" (what the news media have taken to calling a paranoid episode, I guess) but, although I felt the thoughts and inclinations, they didn't really take hold. The night the police beat me up and arrested me, I was walking to buy a newspaper because I found the section with the comics was missing and I believed the police---"Nick" specifically---had taken it in order to antagonize me. I went from place to place finding that all the newspapers on display between 11th e at 21st s and 13th s and Main had the c section missing as police cruisers kept passing by me giving off threatening vib cough es. I was on my way to another newstand after leaving the Maverick and its stack of comic-less newspapers when they arrested me so I guess a panic attack or a post traumatic stress syndrome-related reaction to another newspaper incident might have been expected. The cover has a picture of children playing what I think is ring-around-the-rosie [[cough. I think it must be the older than student age male with long brown hair I used to think was in a mullet style but have since changed my mind. His cough often sounds genuine. They had an Indian couple come into Domino's as I waited for my coupon pizza. The had a beautiful infant in a car seat. The male coughed at me frequently at me with loud, sharp coughs and when he wasn't coughing he affected high-pitched, effeminate, puerile, affectedly joyous baby talk which I suppose he was directing at the infant. I didn't look at them. I guess they were both affecting the happy happy tone most flash mobs do. Well, what would do you some good, then? A student aged male just arrived chewing gum with angry jaws. He said "yep, I'm horny" in his psychic voice as he fingered his genitals with both hands. He made a steely expression whenever I glance over there. It the one I have often called "hard-faced" when I feel angry. An older than student aged male with a bald head said aloud, "Good morning" as he sat down a couple tables away. A student aged male behind whispered a sarcastic "wow" sometime ago and made a similar expression when I glanced around. I think his was tinged with a catbird or liar's smile, though. I don't know if it was a psychic whisper or not, but I think it wasn't.]]]]]. There are 4 females ranging from 2 years old or so to maybe pubescent and one male of around 8 holding hands in a circle around a single female who could be five or six. I think they're dressed in sort of Victorian clothes. the females have on skirts, dresses or pinafores that are cut full and reach below the knees with long, heavy leggings or stockings covering their calves. The two younger females have short sleeves, while the older ones have long. The male has a long sleeved, plaid shirt with a wide, maybe patternless and certainly lighter, sailor type collar that reaches about halfway down his back. He could have on knickers fastened over dark stockings and his shoes seem to be lace-up leather and ankle height. The background is entirely filled with 2 tall, clapboard houses with functional shutters on the windows, most open, one or two closed.
